STORYTELLING is what she does best when she performs.
And the crowd was mesmerised by her voice and the band as American singer Jill Scott gave a stellar performance on Sunday, 22 September.
She was the headline act at this year’s DStv Delicious Food and Music Festival, held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand.
Scores of food and music lovers attended the event despite the cold weather, enjoying a culinary experience while listening to live performances by local and international stars.
DJ and producer Oskido graced the stage with a breathtaking set just before Jill Scott’s performance.
He took the audience back with a playlist of beloved deep house songs.
South African singer Lerato Moipone Molapo, professionally known as Lira, introduced Jill Scott.
“I’m not here to sing today but just to introduce the next performance,” Lira said.
She mentioned that she met Jill in 2012 and has loved her ever since.

The crowd waited for over 30 minutes to hear their favourite singer on stage.
Even though her band took some time preparing for the performance, most fans were patient and screamed with joy when she finally appeared.
Jill took the crowd on a soulful journey with her poetic lyrics.
“I tell stories, I am a storyteller,” Jill said.
In the middle of her performance, she addressed a common misconception.
“People say every girl is a kind of whore, and that is a lie. It is a lie, and the truth isn’t in it. There are people waiting for your internal call, work on your voice,” she said.
After the show, she posted a video on her Instagram, expressing her gratitude.
“When you sing back, Joburg? It’s so beautiful and overwhelmingly wonderful. South Africa, Joburg. I just want you to know that I will always come back. Ya’ll got me, thank you,” she said.
Meanwhile, celebrity chef and singer Joao Da Fonseca, popularly known as J’Something, and his wife Cordelia Fonseca shared their favourite meals with patrons at the Windhoek Lounge.
