Kaizer Chiefs supporters could finally see recently re-signed academy graduate Njabulo Blom in action when the side takes on AmaZulu FC, with the versatile star yet to feature since his return on a season-long loan from St. Louis City.

Chiefs made the shock announcement ahead of the new season after head coach Nasreddine Nabi had let slip at the Betway Premiership launch just hours earlier that the 24-year-old would be returning.

The move comes on the back of an underwhelming spell for Blom that has seen him start just four of the 17 matches he featured in as he reportedly fell out of favour under new man in charge John Hackworth.

Blom was not part of the matchday squad as Amakhosi defeated Marumo Gallants 2-1 in their opening match of the season.

Head coach Nasreddine Nabi said the Dobsonville-born star had not reached match fitness but added that he was looking forward to picking Blom once fit.

“Not all the players are ready, especially the new ones like Blom,” Nabi said when asked about the player’s absence.

“So, he needs a little more preparation. But I’m very happy for the signing of Blom.”

After two weeks of preparation, the Tunisian-Belgian appears to be ready to field the box-to-box midfielder.

Blom was spotted among the Chiefs players that travelled to Durban for Wednesday’s clash against Usuthu, set to be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

For the Khosi Nation, it would be the first time seeing Blom in the club’s colours since his inspired performance in a 1-0 Soweto Derby win against Orlando Pirates in October 2022 before his move to the MLS.

It is important to note, though, that Blom will not have an easy walk into the Amakhosi line-up, as he faces stiff competition from the likes of Yusuf Maart, Edson Castillo, Samkelo Zwane and Sibongiseni Mthethwa in the battle for a starting berth.

The match will kick off at 19:30.
