SIYABONGA Skweyiya, the father of a four-year-old boy who was tragically killed and buried by his mother and her boyfriend, is grappling with the loss.

The 31-year-old mum and her 26-year-old lover appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 8 July.

Last year, they allegedly murdered the toddler and buried him in a shallow grave in the bushes of Boitekong, outside Rustenburg, North West.

The child was last seen in July 2023.

Siyabonga, a 33-year-old from Alexandra, north of Joburg, resided in Rustenburg for work when he met his son’s mum.

ā€œRecently, I contacted one of her friends, who told me they know that the child is with my family. We then involved the police following the mother’s confession,” Siyabonga said.

He said the relationship deteriorated, especially when he was unemployed. However, once employed, he sent R1 000 monthly financial support since April last year.

ā€œI have so many questions, which I believe will never be answered because the truth lies between the two of them,ā€ he said.

An emotional Siyabonga said he was struggling to cope and would allow the law to take its course.Ā

Yoliswa Ntsimango, the deceasedā€™s grandmother, commented on her daughter’s behaviour.

“She’s always been naughty and accused me of neglecting her whenever I addressed her bad behaviour,” she said.

The family was misled to believe the child was with his paternal aunt.

Nasiphi Mata, a friend of the mother, initially thought the child was taken to his paternal family but grew suspicious when the mother changed her story.

“I donā€™t understand why she didnā€™t ask for help. We were willing to help her babysit,” she said.

Community member, Nonkie Kgotseng expressed anger and grief, and blamied the mother for neglecting her duty.

“What could ever cause a mother to kill her children? We’re deeply touched,” she said.

The case was postponed to 25 October for further investigation.
