Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe would only allow Oswin Appollis to leave the club for a move abroad, but he knows that the decision does not fully rest on him.

Appollis understood to be a target of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, who are making a concerted effort to bring the Bafana Bafana international on board.

Indications are that Appollis has attracted interested from North Africa and, with the transfer window still open for a few more weeks, a move cannot be ruled out just yet.

Mohafe, though, has not allowed the talk of a possible Appollis move to distract him as they prepare for the start of the new season. He has been working with arguably the club’s most prized possession throughout pre-season and is looking forward to improving on the team’s eighth place finish from last term.

“I also heard that there is talk about him. As I previously said, for me as a coach to release him, I will only allow for him to go abroad, but that does not lie in my hands. It’s not in my capacity. It’s the management’s decision to say he may or may not go,” Mohafe said to media during the launch of the MTN8 in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

“But what I know now is that he is staying put with the club. He is working 100 percent and he is willing to go play against Sundowns (in the MTN8) and against other teams in the league. His mind is still with Polokwane City, 100 percent.”

City will kickstart their campaign with a MTN8 quarter-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium, on August 11.
