Former president of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC), Mpho Morolane also announced that he’s leaving the party.

THE Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has lost yet another big member.

On Wednesday morning, 4 September, former president of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC), Mpho Morolane, also announced that he’s leaving the party.

Morolane made headlines recently when he threw his support behind Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and said he was the greatest candidate to lead the party to victory in the 2026 local government elections.

In a letter directed to the party secretary-general, Morolane stated: “It’s with great difficulty that one has decided to step away from a decade-long affiliation with the EFF. My service to the organisation has been with humility, integrity, and respect.”

He further said that it should be mentioned that, even in situations where one was adamantly opposed, one was never persuaded to openly disagree with the organisation’s position on unapproved forums.

“The pain that one endured in decisions taken by the upper structure in relation to one’s tenure as the inaugural president of the Student Command has never warranted from one’s end disrespect to senior leadership.

“I extend my gratitude to the EFF in its contribution to my political and social development as a leader. The EFF has never denied one to take space as shown by my service to the Central Command Team, War Council, and the historic opportunity of being the inaugural president of the EFF Students Command. It is undeniable that my time as a fighter has been invaluable and for me to unpack the lessons will require me to reduce some to pages of a book,” he said.

Morolane said that this era in the party has presented unprecedented challenges to the July Movement and his conscious decision to fully relinquish his membership and participation brings both deep sorrows infused with joy.

He further said that he expects his decision to be respected and accepted.

Moreover, the hatred that is to fall upon him once the realisation of his departure from the organisation has set will equally be accepted.

“The organisation has always felt like home; however, the time has come when a conscious decision has been taken by me to pursue a different path. This should not be construed as an act of public opposition but an upright move for the progressive fight to the restoration of the dignity of African people,” he said.
