SHOPPERS were in great shock after witnessing a car flying from a parking lot with a driver inside.

This is after a driver smashed through a wall of a Durban parking lot and plunged to death from the fourth floor of a building in Overport Durban on Thursday, 20 June.

The man in his 70s died as a result after his car came to rest on its roof four storeys below.

A shopper said she was outside the shopping centre heading inside when she heard a big bang coming from outside the shopping centre.

“I went to see a car upside down on the ground. It had smashed through the wall of the parking lot. It was an awful sight. I decided to go back home after seeing the tragic accident,” she said.

A worker at the shopping centre said it’s suspected that the man had a heart attack and he then failed to control the car.

“He was alone and was leaving when this happened. I heard that he was an old man,” she said.

ALS Paramedics spokesman Garrith Jamieson said they attended to the scene of a car crash which occurred when a driver somehow lost control and ploughed through the garage of the shopping centre and landed on the ground.

“The single occupant who was trapped in the wreckage sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” he said.
