Respected South African coach Pitso Mosimane, known for his successful work in Egypt and the Middle East, was recently among the reported candidates considered for the head coach position at Kaizer Chiefs.

Despite Mosimane once being a fan favourite for the Amakhosi vacancy, the role is expected to be filled by Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi. Since then, Mosimane continues to attract interest from clubs in North Africa, a region he had previously coached Al Ahly to two Caf Champions League titles.
In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, former Bafana Bafana striker Katlego “Killer” Mphela discussed Mosimane’s prospects and his potential fit in North African football.Â
“I don’t see why not. He has been in that space before. He has the experience of North African football. He knows what’s needed to be in that space and make it but at the end it will depend on him if he wants to go back there or not. I’m sure they admire his work there and there are several clubs looking for his services. As long as they can approach him I don’t see why he can’t go there. He still has a lot to offer in North Africa and elsewhere,” Mphela told the Siya crew.

‘Killer’ also reflected on Kaizer Chiefs’ expected decision to hire Nabi, adding that while the club might have missed an opportunity with Mosimane, it’s important to respect their decision-making process.
“I think only time will tell. We still need to respect the decision the club took. I’m sure there were a lot of dealings behind the scenes and it’s something they thought about for a very long time before making the final decision. Yes, coach Pitso could have been great for Chiefs but the club have made their decision and let’s respect them,” Mphela concluded.
Mosimane remains a highly respected figure in African football, with a proven track record and a deep understanding of the game’s cultural nuances, particularly in Arabic speaking nations in recent years.
