Kaizer Chiefs are certainly in a crisis after their trophy-less run stretched to nine seasons and one of their former coaches who was successful at the club, weighed in on the matter.

There has been loud calls over the years for Amakhosi to transform their football department with knowledgeable people to help the club turn around their fortunes.

The Glamour Boys’ football department was initially run by Bobby Motaung, who was heavily criticized in the media for not buying quality players and the Soweto giants seemingly escalated the project to Kaizer Motaung Jr in July 2021 after they appointed him as the Sporting Director.

Things have not changed much with Motaung Jr in charge of the football matters at the club, as new signings have continued to be questionable and there is still instability with coaches.

Muhsin Ertugral, who has won multiple trophies with Chiefs, has suggested that the Glamour Boys need outside influence of expertise within their football department to catch up with the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns.

“For my opinion, the biggest problem is that the greatest enemy for yourself is the illusion of knowledge, so if you think you know it, that’s the enemy, the illusion for you. In the end you don’t know. Today’s football is changing everyday,” Ertugral dissected Amakhosi’s problems on Radio 2000’s Game On.

“You can see Sundowns they are running away in South African football and internationally as well, behind the scenes very influential people, I can’t pass without mentioning Mr (Flemming) Berg, he’s one of the top in international football.

“Sporting Directors are not the ones grinding results, grinding results is on the technical part but Sporting Directors and influential people behind the scenes are grinding results for the next ten years. I don’t think this is done by Kaizer Junior behind the scenes, you need expertise, people who can handle and grind results for the next ten years. That is what is not happening at Chiefs,” he added.

The Motsepe hierarchy are no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the Brazilians after Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe announced in September last year that he will be pursuing personal and family interests in Europe and Africa and would no longer attend as many matches as before, which means there is a big trust in people running football matters at the club, as billionaire owner Dr. Patrice runs CAF as President.
