Snl24 | NSPCA hunts Malema over cow kill!
The NSPCA continues to pursue charges against EFF leader Julius Malema.
A YEAR later, and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) is still after Julius Malema.
NSPCA wants the EFF leader charged for animal cruelty.
Last year on 29 August 2023, the NSPCA lodged criminal charges against Malema for suspected animal cruelty.
The incident, which was recorded, showed him struggling to slaughter a cow. The widely circulated video featured Malema with other EFF members participating in a ceremonial slaughter of 100 cows as part of their 10th anniversary celebration at a farm in Magaliesburg.
To this day, the animal welfare group said they have been struggling to get Malema prosecuted or charged for what they deem as illegal.
In the video, Malema can be seen using a small knife to stab the cow multiple times and using a twisting motion to the animal’s head, which the NSPCA said constitutes unnecessary suffering and extreme cruelty.

NSPCA spokesman Jacques Peacock said since it was registered, the case has been transferred multiple times between various police stations and ultimately to the state.
He said initially, the prosecutor decided not to proceed with the case. However, after further discussions, this decision was reinstated, although no clear explanation was provided for the reversal.
“Despite our continued efforts over the past year, the case has remained in a state of limbo between the state and the SAPS, hindered by insufficient progress. To date, the SAPS has not managed to obtain a warning statement from the accused,” Peacock said.
“These ongoing delays not only impede the pursuit of justice but also jeopardise vital evidence, witness testimony, and accountability for the accused.”
Peacock said the NSPCA remains unwavering in its commitment to advocate for animal welfare and is determined to assist the state in achieving justice for the affected animal.
“We urge all parties involved to address this issue with the urgency and seriousness it demands, as animal welfare needs to become a priority in our society,” he said.
Gauteng Police spokeswoman Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed to Daily Sun that a case of Animal Protection Act 71 of 1962 has been opened.
“No arrest has been made yet and the investigation is continuing,” she said.
