Snl24 | Parker’s lasting impression at Chiefs

Bernard Parker has retired having left a huge mark at Kaizer Chiefs, the club he called home for 11 years.

With every call that Kaizer Chiefs will make for players that have earned legendary seats at the club, Bernard Parker will do so with a sense of pride for the foreseeable future.

This is down to the fact that Parker has walked out having stamped his name at Chiefs – where he spent 11 years.

From the period when domestic football came to be played under the PSL in August 1996 just a few years after South Africa’s readmission into the international arena, Parker holds the top scorer to his name.

He scored 62 goals for Amakhosi, before leaving for TS Galaxy after being offloaded in June 2022.

There hasn’t been any other player to reach this mark playing for Chiefs in the 28 years under review with Siphiwe Tshabalala having finished on 58 goals, Siyabonga Nomvete (48), Knowledge Musona (44) and Pollen Ndlanya (39) in the list of those in the top five.

Parker scored his first goal for the Soweto giants against Bidvest Wits in August 2011 and then closed off with his last against Moroka Swallows in May 2022.

He was able to get into double figures two seasons in a row.

His time at Naturena came with two league titles, Nedbank Cup and MTN8.

Of note is the fact that Parker lasted two decades playing professional football after starting out as a teenager with Benoni Premier United in the then Mvela Golden League.

He then moved to Thanda Royal Zulu, Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, FC Twente in Holland, Greek club Panserraikos, before landing at Chiefs, after which he spent the last two years at TS Galaxy.

Parker played 72 games for Bafana Bafana.
