Azapo’s Mzimkhulu Zizi Nojozi has been killed.

THE Azanian People’s Organisation (Azapo) Western Cape leader Mzimkhulu Zizi Nojozi (63) has been killed in Cape Town, allegedly over a protection fee.

The incident happened in Gugulethu on Sunday, 2 June, not far from his home.

Azapo president Nelvis Qekema said that Nonjozi had told them days before his death that “protection fee boys” visited him, demanding a share of the rent money from his flats.

“A few days before his death, he told his comrades that he was visited by young boys who demanded that he share with them the rent paid by the tenants in his backyard flats. That is called a ‘protection fee’ in thug language.

“Many people have died in the Western Cape townships because they refuse to be robbed of their meagre earnings by the thugs who terrorise the black communities,” said Qekema.

He said it’s painful that young people killed Nonjozi, who was an Azanian military veteran.

“What was his sin that made him to be killed by the black children for whom he went to prison and was tortured for a number of times? These are the children for whom he took up arms and put his life on the line. He successfully evaded the bullets of the enemy, but not of his children,” said Qekema.

Police spokeswoman Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed the incident.

“Gugulethu police are investigating a murder case following a shooting incident on Sunday, 2 June 2024, at Ny2 Street, Gugulethu, where a man (63) was shot and fatally wounded,” she said.

Manyana said anyone with information regarding the incident should contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
