The reigning DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season could be set to leave Orlando Pirates on loan, the Siya crew has been informed.

Monnapule Saleng was the talk of the PSL last season, but he’s quickly fallen down the pecking order at Pirates. Siya sources have indicated that the famous South African footballer needs game time to get back into the Bafana Bafana squad and prove that he’s still one of the country’s top players.

“The thing is he is not playing regularly this season and the club feels he needs to get some game time and rediscover his form. That’s why they want him to go out on loan. It’s not a finalised move yet because they are looking at a team or teams which would be interested in getting him on loan until the end of the season,” said the Siya source.

“Then when he comes back maybe he could rediscover his form. That’s why the team wants to send him out on loan,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source has stated that since Saleng’s contract expires in June 2025 and that they don’t want to let him go now because he can still contribute at a high level for the team in future.

“I don’t think it’s the end of the road for him. He still has a contract with the club. His contract only expires in 2025 so they want to give him the chance to play and when he comes back he can fight for his place again.

“It’s just that now there are players who are doing better than him and those are the players playing ahead of him. The technical team feels a loan move will do well for him mainly looking ahead to next season,” the source told the Siya crew.

So far this season, Saleng has featured in 11 DStv Premiership league games scoring on just one occasion compared to last season where he had scored 11 times in 22 league games.

The North West born winger joined Pirates in 2021 from the now defunct Free State Stars and had signed an initial four-year contract. His previous loan move to Swallows FC brought out the best in him on returning to Bucs.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
