Before adding up the money that Riveiro will have banked for the club if he wins it again this season, Wednesday night’s match will carry meaning as it is the 10th in the MTN8.

The Spaniard has played four games in each of the last two that he has won and was on his ninth in the victory over SuperSport United in the quarterfinals.

His record to date in this competition reads seven wins (inclusive of last year’s penalty shootout win in the final), one draw and one defeat.

Wednesday’s match is the first in the MTN8 against Cape Town City since Riveiro took over at Pirates.

Then with the sponsors increasing the prize-money to R10 million for the winners this year, it will mean a total of R26 million won by Riveiro in the MTN8 should he lift the trophy on Saturday, October 5.

Three in a row will have the trophy getting a permanent home for the first time ever throughout the competition’s history as no club has ever won it in three consecutive years.
