The South African Players Union denies allegations that their
FIFPRO membership has been suspended due to maladministration.

According to sources SAFPU are no longer getting the FIFPRO grant after a
complaint was laid against them by their lawyer and unhappy members.”Yes, they’ve indeed been suspended for the past three weeks or so, for
maladministration,” a source tells KickOff.

“Another thing is they owe their lawyer some money, and the lawyer has
reported them to FIFPRO.

“Also, another thing is they took long to have an AGM, which is the
congress they had recently. They took about four years. Their excuse was the Covid, but they could have done it on Zoom.

“So, they took about four years, which means they overstayed. The thing is
when you are suspended by FIFPRO, you are not going to get any support from
them.”

Contacted for their side of the story, SAFPU Vice President Tebogo Monyai
rubbished the accusations.

“Currently, SAFPU has not received any communication that we have been
suspended by them,” he says.

“And as it is now, yes, after our congress in Cape Town, FIFPRO have asked that we must submit some documentation from our side on a compliance
basis. Not maladministration. Then we did all the information FIFPRO had requested. In our last
meeting, I heard nothing about the suspension.

“As it is now, we have never received any formal communication from FIFPRO
about our suspension or whatever. Any union that is affiliated to FIFPRO gets the grant every three months,
I can’t disclose how much, and whether you are suspended or not the grant will
still come.

“According to FIFPRO, whether you are suspended or not, FIFPRO must pay
you the entire amount of the year. That’s according to FIFPRO’s statutes.’
