Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has been linked with Sekhukhune United, and the Siya crew investigates what could be going on behind the scenes on this potential transfer.
Soccer Laduma had already revealed how Sekhukhune may be interested in the former Bafana Bafana captain.Â

With Khune’s current contract coming to an end soon, Siya sources close to the situation have indicated that Babina Noko could be offering the famous keeper an excellent package.
The sources added that the club may not only provide Khune with playing time but also life after football in the team’s management structures.
“With his current situation at the club even he himself is not sure whether his contract will be renewed or not at the end of the season. So he is a person before being a player and he has to look after his future and that’s why he will consider the offer from Sekhukhune United,” said the Siya source.
“It’s not just a football player offer. It’s like offering him a retirement package saying ‘come play for us’ for three seasons, retire and work for us. That’s what they wanted to do with Morgan Gould and Willard Katsande.

“It didn’t really work out accordingly but they want to continue with that and that’s what can make this deal happen,” the source told Soccer Laduma.
A second Siya source added that Khune may be looking at his options and opportunities because he doesn’t want to find himself on the sidelines.
“You see what happened to Bernard Parker, Tinashe Nengomasha, Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala and others who were not really recognised towards the end of their careers and that’s what Itu (Khune) is looking at and he wants to secure his future beyond football and Sekhukhune United are offering him that. Who can refuse such an offer?” the source told the Siya crew.
A third Siya source added that Sekhukhune are looking at growing their fan base and they may feel that Khune can help them achieve that.
“Sekhukhune want to grow as a brand and they feel Khune can help them do that. Look at the Carling All Stars team votes. He wasn’t playing for Chiefs but he was number one. Which means people love him as a player and as a person.
“So even he he goes to Sekhukhune he will have those followers and Sekhukhune are looking at that to boost their brand. That’s the other reason why they want this deal to happen,” concluded the source.
Soccer Laduma contacted both clubs for comment but no response was received from either of them while this story was prepared.
