Orlando Pirates had sold one of their high profile players in Thembinkosi Lorch to Mamelodi Sundowns on the last day of the January window and former Bucs midfielder Joseph “Shakira” Kamwendo is not a happy man with this transfer business.
Speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma, Shakira believes that Pirates made a big mistake if they want to challenge for the PSL title.

The Malawi based former player says that it will be difficult for Pirates to catch up with Sundowns now.
“You can’t sell your best players to teams you compete with. That means you are empowering them while killing your team. Pirates didn’t do well to sell Lorch to Sundowns at all. Have you seen Sundowns selling their best players locally? No,” Kamwendo told the Siya crew.
“Even if they loan them out they don’t play against Sundowns. They know the importance of competition and keeping their best players. But Pirates are selling their best players to their greatest opposition in the league title challenge. How? You don’t do that!” Kamwendo added.

Shakira added that it will be difficult for Pirates to win the league title this season taking into account how they are playing so far.
“Not this season. They can’t win the league this season. What they should fight for is to finish second and qualify for the CAF Champions League and then next season keep all their best players and fight for the league title from the first game while they also fight to do well in Africa.
“That would be a good start for next season. But to do that they have to keep all their best players and avoid selling them to the opposition who are directly competing with them,” Kamwendo concluded.
