VILLAGERS have been left in disbelief after a 27-year-old male suspect allegedly raped a 101-year-old gogo.
The incident took place on Saturday, 27 July, when the suspect gained entry into the gogo’s house at Zaaiplaas Village outside Burgersfort in Limpopo by allegedly breaking a window while she was asleep.
The victim was woken by the suspect, who attempted to strangle her before allegedly raping her and then fleeing the scene.
The incident has left villagers angry and in shock, as this is the first time they’ve learnt about such a heinous act.
Talking to Daily Sun, a 30-year-old villager said this was strange to them.
“How can a young man rape such an old woman? He just cursed himself, and he would never have peace, and bad luck would follow him. He should have just gone and got some from magosha. Now he’s going to spend his life in jail,” he said.
Others said the suspect must rot in jail as no woman will be safe around him.

Limpopo Social Development MEC Florence Radzilani condemned the incident, saying she’s deeply disturbed.
Radzilani said this heinous act violates the fundamental rights of a vulnerable member of society and highlights a concerning issue.
“As we observe August as Women’s Month, this horrific crime stands in stark contrast to the values we hold dear.
“We should be celebrating the strength and resilience of women, yet we find ourselves mourning the violation of an innocent elderly woman, illustrating a critical need for immediate action,” she said.
Radzilani urged everyone to unite in protecting the elderly and supporting initiatives to enhance their safety and well-being.
Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was identified and arrested at his home shortly after the incident.
“He has already appeared before Zaaiplaas Periodical Court on Monday, 29 July, on charges of housebreaking and rape. He was remanded in custody until Thursday, 8 August, for possible bail application.
