KZN police have launched a 72-hour search for suspects behind the mass shooting in the Ezakheni area in uMnambithi, KZN. Ā 

The mass shooting, which happened on Monday, 17 June, left six women dead, including five-year-old and two-year-old children. Ā 

It’s alleged that a total of 11 people were travelling in a bakkie in uMnambithi when another vehicle approached, and its occupants opened fire at the bakkie. Ā 

According to a police report, women aged 37, two 17-year-olds, a 15-year-old, and girl children aged five and two years old were declared dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, two men and three women survived the shooting with injuries, while the 21-year-old woman escaped unharmed.Ā 

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said: ā€œMotive of the killing has not yet been established. Police are appealing to anyone who might have information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.ā€Ā

Alfred Duma Municipality Mayor Zama Sibisi condemned the senseless killing. Ā 

ā€œThis brutal murder of innocent lives has left panic in the community. The municipality is calling on the police to act swiftly and accordingly in bringing the culprits to book and ensuring justice for the victims and their families,ā€ Sibisi said.Ā 

He also called on residents to join hands and come forward with information to help the police.Ā 

KZN Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka said the department mourns the tragic loss of a dedicated teacher from Ngcede Primary School. Ā 

He said she was killed in an ambush on Monday, along with five others, including her two children who attended Limehill High School. Ā 

“We stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time. May their souls rest in peace,” said Hlomuka.Ā
