A HOMELESS mum was grateful when a madala (63) offered her and her two kids a place to stay for free.

She said the landlord was so good to her that he even offered to buy them food.

But little did she know that the landlord was eyeing her two daughters to compensate himself.

Without her knowing, he sneaked on her two daughters, aged 16 and 24.

He attempted to rape the 16-year-old, but she cunningly managed to escape by telling him that she was a member of the Amatshitshi group and was not allowed to sleep with any man.

He then preyed on her elder sister by taking her to a house, locking her inside, and raping her.

Today, a gender-based violence group from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni protested outside the court to demand that the madala, who was arrested on 21 August 2024, not be released on bail.

The group leader, Laly Sikhosana, said they have urged residents to come and sign the petition.

“This man took advantage of the poor family, and he used his place to lure them into his hands,” said Laly.

The 24-year-old victim said on the day the landlord raped her, he came to his yard pretending he was coming to check on his tenants.

“He found me sleeping, opened the bedroom door, and told me to get out of bed and follow him. I thought he bought something for us, as he used to buy food for us,” she said.

The young woman said they got into the car, and he locked it, and they drove off.

“On the way, he told me he wanted to have sex with me, and I froze. I told him I couldn’t do it,” she said.

She said when they got to his house, he locked all the doors.

“I lied that I was on my periods, but he told me to go clean myself. The windows and doors had burglar proofs, and there was no way to escape,” she said.

The victim said the man told her if she did not have sex with him, he was going to kick them out of his house. She said after the incident, he drove her back to where she stays and told her not to tell anyone.

After he left, the woman went to the Daveyton Police Station to open a rape case on 20 August.

Now the woman said they’re living in fear as some people came to them and told her to drop the case or else face their wrath.

The landlord appeared in the Daveyton Magistrates Court last Friday, 30 August, and the case was postponed to 10 September.
