Snl24 | Top African striker ‘makes decision’ on move to Rulani’s Wydad

Besiktas and Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar has reportedly made his decision on an offer to join Rulani Mokwena’s Wydad Athletic Club.

A top African striker has now reportedly made his decision on a proposed move to Rulani Mokwena’s Wydad Athletic Club.

With the Moroccan side looking to continue strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign, the Red Castle submitted an offer to Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar, according to Youm7.

However, it is claimed the Besiktas striker – who is contracted to the Turkish club until next year – has turned down the chance to make the switch to Casablanca.

It is understood that the attacker, who has also played for the likes of FC Porto and Al Nassr previously, has received other offers too, but rejected those as well.

Aboubakar scored 12 goals and assisted three further strikes in the 34 appearances he made across all competitions over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, and prior to that, finished the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations as the top goalscorer with eight goals.

This is not the first time in the current window the Botola Pro 1 outfit is claimed to have pursued the signature of an attacker with considerable European experience.

Earlier this month, Wydad were reported to have held talks with former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid star James Rodriguez’s agent.

However, those negotiations were almost immediately brought to a halt due to the Moroccan side not being able to afford the star’s high salary.

Mokwena’s club is also believed to have been interested in former Manchester City star Mario Balotelli, but his wage demands were also considered to be too high.

The Red Castle have already brought in 10 new faces in this window as they look to improve on their 2023/24 season, which saw them finish sixth place in the league.
