THREE young men from Philippi in Cape Town allegedly robbed a motorist of his belongings and attempted to hijack his vehicle, but the confrontation ended tragically for one of the suspects.
On Thursday, 25 April, a motorist, defending himself, fired shots, injuring one of the suspects who later died on his way to the hospital.
Vendors operating near the train station reported having to seek cover during the robbery as bullets flew in all directions.
A vendor expressed to Daily Sun their concern for safety due to frequent robberies near their selling spot.
“The man parked his vehicle, but the armed gang quickly surrounded the vehicle and took his belongings. They started running away, but the car owner chased them while firing shots in their direction, hitting one of them and he fell near the train station,” said a 68-year-old vendor.

When Daily Sun reached out to the family of one of the dead thugs, 19-year-old teen, they declined to comment on the matter.
The boy’s father only said he wasn’t present during the robbery and had little to say.
“I was informed by people that my son had been shot. As for what happened, you’ll have to ask the police or those who were there. I can only confirm that the dead teen was my son. He was 19 years old,” said the father.
A vendor told Daily Sun: “This boy was killed not far from where Loyiso was murdered. We’ve seen too many murders and robberies here.”
Western Cape police spokesman Sergeant Wesley confirmed the incident.
