Snl24 | Transfer insight on Mbule, Chiefs update

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – SEPTEMBER 23: Sipho Mbule of Mamelodi Sundowns in action with Yusuf Maart of Kaizer Chiefs during the MTN8 semi final, 2nd leg match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium on September 23, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule is in line to make a move away from Chloorkop before the PSL transfer window slams shut on Friday, and KickOff has insight on the situation and whether a deal to Kaizer Chiefs could happen.

The latest update from Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, issued ahead of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round, first-leg clash against Mbabane Swallows over the weekend, is that Mbule has recovered from injury and has been training well with the team.

However, the former SuperSport United star not being included in the matchday squad against the Eswatini side raised eyebrows, as the technical team used the opportunity to give other players game-time, with most of the Bafana Bafana contingent rested.

Word reaching this website, from a reliable source, is that Sundowns are actually engaged in talks with a few clubs in the PSL with the aim of concluding a loan deal for ‘Master Chef’ before the transfer window closes on Friday midnight.

Strong indications are that three clubs could be vying for the Bethlehem-born player’s signature.

The Brazilians have already made notable loan agreements with AmaZulu FC for the trio of Etiosa Ighodaro, Sifiso Ngobeni and Luvuyo Phewa, and the club  have also made loan deals with Richards Bay FC for Thabang Sibanyoni and Thando Buthelezi prior to the start of the current season.

Sekhukhune United have also emerged as a surprise suitor for the 26-year-old, who, despite reports that he is looking to revive his career, was actually a key member of the team’s former head coach Rulani Mokwena’s squad, as niggling injuries limited him to 22 appearances in all competitions last season.

There have been question marks and even suggestions during the off-season that Kaizer Chiefs should consider signing Mbule, as he was not exactly a regular at Sundowns. Especially since the Soweto giants have been linked with his services before, prior to his big-money move to Downs.

However, this publication can reveal that a move to Naturena at this stage, even on loan, has been ruled out.
