THE uMkhonto Wesizwe party (MK) considers the behaviour of the Electoral Commission questionable.
This comes after the commission took the party and its leader, former president Jacob Zuma to the Constitutional Court because he’s the face of the newly formed party.
The case is currently heard in the apex court.
MK spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela told Daily Sun outside the court on Friday, 10 May, that there was no need for the IEC to go to court following the Electoral Court’s ruling.
“They say they want clarity. How do you seek clarity on an urgent basis and go to the Constitutional Court when that clarity is based on a judgment. They should have waited for the judgment,” Ndhlela said.
He said the commission should have at least approached the Supreme Court of Appeal, if it wasn’t satisfied with the judgment.
Ndhlela said the IEC’s behaviour was questionable.

“I’d like to say to the IEC that they should go into politics. They’re fighting a political battle.
Zuma, the face of the MK party’s election campaign, had been excluded from the list by the commission because there was an objection against him.
He appealed to the Electoral Court against his disqualification under Section 47(1)(e).
The court found that the commission wrongly applied this Section to Zuma as his 15-month prison sentence was final.
Ndhlela said the case was not only about Zuma but anyone living in Mzansi.
He added that regardless of the outcome of the case, MK members will turn up in large numbers on 29 May and vote for the party.
“Justice means we’ll vote on 29 May and see change on 1 June,” said Ndhlela.
