Moroka Swallows could be docked points and further ordered to pay stakeholders for the club’s failure to honour its DStv Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.Â
Swallows drew headlines on when the Premier Soccer League informed the media that the club was unable to field a team against Downs at the Loftus Versveld stadium yesterday evening.
The announcement, made at the eleventh hour, was due to a strike by Swallows players as a result of a salary dispute. This is the second time in a month that the Dube Birds have downed tools for a financial dispute. This after players boycotted training for 10 days before their match against SuperSport United at the Dobsonville stadium on December 15.Â

According to a source close to the PSL disciplinary committee, Moroka Swallows could also be held liable for the costs incurred by SuperSport TV, for the broadcast of the DStv Premiership match in Tshwane on Wednesday.Â
“For SuperSport to bring the truck and televise a match doesn’t cost less than R800 000. That also includes makeup artists, cameramen, and other freelancers. There is also the issue of adverts that are involved when televising a soccer match and there are contracts involved,” an insider revealed to KickOff.
Match commissioner, Robert Sithole refused to confirm details of his match report between Sundowns and Swallows.
“SuperSport (TV) is here. It’s clear evidence that the game is not going on and I don’t think it’s for me to make a statement. The league has already released the press statement,” said Sithole.Â

Moroka Swallows have already written to the PSL to request their next DStv Premiership match against Golden Arrows scheduled for December 30 be postponed to a later date. According to League rules, Swallows should submit a request to postpone the fixture at least 10 days before their match against Arrows.
“Member club seeking approval for a fixture change must submit a written request at least 10 days before the match in question on the prescribed form issued by the League accompanied by all the supporting documents required,” as stated in the PSL Handbook. Â
