Snl24 | ZCC to finally reopen its doors!

The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) has announced the resumption of its annual pilgrimage after a four-year hiatus due to Covid-19.

MEMBERS of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) are thrilled over resumption of the church’s annual pilgrimage.

They were exhilarated following the church’s announcement of its annual pilgrimage conferences.

The church closed its doors in 2020 after the Covid-19 outbreak.

It’s been nearly four years since members, who are referred to as ‘Masione’, have been barred from travelling to Moria.

Maria Sekgobela (65) from Viking near the church’s Moria headquarters said they never thought they would see this day.

“It’s been long. We watched other churches open their doors after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, but ours remained closed. We thought we’d never do our annual pilgrimages because it’s been a long time. I’m over the moon and have already paid for transport. So, I’m ready,” Maria said.

Sello Mabapa (26) from Mentz Malesa said he spent two years without going to church but now he’ll go back and be a member in good standing.

“For the past two years, I was not attending church at all. I was doing things that go against the church’s rules. But now I will be going back and be a member in good standing. I won’t be going to Kopano, but I believe I will make it next time since we are now open,” he said.

Kholofelo Letsoalo (37), a street vendor from Turf, said although she’s excited about the reopening, she’s disappointed that she won’t be able to sell her merchandise this year.

“Previously, I used to sell to Masione. I sell vetkoeks, vegetables, fruits, and pap. When they come for Kopano, local vendors benefit massively. But I heard this year we won’t be allowed to do so. I’m praying in the coming years we would be allowed to sell because we really make good money,” she said.

ZCC spokesman, Moruti Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that they will be opening, and other measures will be enforced to ensure the conference runs smoothly.

“The Zion Christian Church will gradually resume its regular conferences after the Covid-19 pandemic, and as such, we’re reminding the public about our procedural matters during these conferences. The conference will be for the 2024/25 consecration of the new year, which will be held from Friday, 30 August to Saturday, 1 September 2024.

“Street vendors won’t be allowed to operate along the R71 main road between Polokwane and Tzaneen in front of the church’s headquarters in Moria City, starting from Matshelapata in Mentz to Mphogodiba. However, the church is not, in any way, against Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises. This is mainly for safety measures,” he said.

Ngoepe further indicated that they don’t have numbers of how many church members will be participating in this year’s pilgrimage.

“We can’t confirm the number of church members coming. Internal communication with the ZCC community regarding standing protocols and processes has been communicated and will continue during the conference,” he said.
