Snl24 | Zuma’s hearing postponed: What’s next for MK party leader?
Former president Jacob Zuma, who’s the leader of the MK party says he’s happy with the outcome of the hearing.
UMKHONTO Wesizwe (MK) party is pleased with progress in the disciplinary hearing against its leader, former president Jacob Zuma, by the ANC.
The hearing, held virtually, started on Wednesday, 17 July, with a pre-hearing on Thursday, 18 July.
Zuma was represented by former ANC NEC member Tony Yengeni, as outlined in the party’s constitution.
On the first day, Zuma received a positive report from Yengeni, indicating that everything went well at the ANC Disciplinary Committee (NDC) hearing.
MK spokesman, Nhlamulo Ndhlela said Yengeni attended the virtual meeting alone to emphasised that Zuma prefers a physical hearing, as previously agreed with the ANC and as per the ANC constitution.
In addition, Yengeni requested a postponement to a future date when a physical hearing would be arranged.

“After a lengthy debate, the NDC decided that the matter would continue on the virtual platform. However, the committee granted the postponement to allow Comrade Yengeni to inform Zuma of the outcome and to prepare for a pre-hearing conference,” Ndhlela explained.
The next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, 23 July 2024.
“President Zuma is pleased to have been granted this opportunity and will consult with his representative and other relevant stakeholders before deciding on the next step,” Ndhlela said.
“He strongly believes that, given the exceptional circumstances, the hearing should be physical and open to the public due to significant public interest and inquiries.”
The ANC said neither the pre-hearing conference nor the actual disciplinary hearing will be open to the public or the media. A verdict will be announced once the committee has reviewed all arguments.
“We can’t specify the timeline for this process. It depends on the scope of the deliberations and issues under consideration,” said ANC acting National Spokesman Zuko Godlimpi.
Zuma faces the ANC’s disciplinary committee for his support and campaigning for MK before the May general elections.
