Sofia Richie Grainge Switches Up Her Style In Her Third Trimester

In the tradition of so many pregnant people before her, Sofia Richie Grainge has left the house in a pair of flip flops and an elasticated smock dress. Priced at just $350, that puff-sleeved Solid & Striped frock is perhaps the most “affordable” garment that Richie Grainge has worn in the past 12 months. This is, after all, a blue-blooded Bel Air princess whose fame was fired in the coals of an estimated $4 million wedding in the south of France.

And so–with perhaps the exception of those $650 thong sandals from The Row and a classic Chanel double flap bag, the price of which continues to inflate at an accelerating speed–it would seem the queen of quiet luxury has temporarily abdicated in favor of the most rare and precious luxury of all: comfort. I should imagine there comes a point in someone’s third trimester when this kind of thinking becomes unavoidable. Particularly when the spectacle of being pregnant and famous–starting with the obligatory photoshoot announcement and the obligatory black-and-white photo of minuscule hands on Instagram nine months later–is an additional and often unwelcome load to bear.

It wasn’t long ago that this Hollywood scion said she had planned to avoid dressing in traditional maternity wear altogether. “I’m just going to size up, which is annoying at times,” Richie Grainge told British Vogue back in February. “But it’s also kind of kept me wearing what I want to wear and staying true to my style.” Sofia Richie Grainge might not be doing a Rihanna–i.e., wearing boudoir-ish slips and knee-high boots–but she is doing it for all the soon-to-be-mothers, who have spent the final days of their maternities in capacious DoĂȘn dresses with generously-ruched panels.
