Spotify expands its Countdown Pages to artists with 5,000 active listeners, more than a year after unveiling the feature. It’s been over a year since Spotify unveiled its Countdown Pages feature in March 2023 — individual pages for upcoming albums allowing fans to pre-save, watch video clips, browse tracklists, pre-order merch, and more. Initially, the feature was only available to artists handpicked by Spotify. Now, the feature is open to a much broader array of musicians, available to any with at least 5,000 active listeners in the last 28 days.

Spotify says nearly 70% of people who pre-save an album will stream it in the first week after its release. According to a Spotify study of 500 musicians with early access to the platform’s Clips feature, which enables artists to put video clips on their Countdown Pages, artists who upload clips see on average double the number of pre-saves than artists who didn’t.

“The lead-up to an album’s release is arguably the most important time during a project’s life cycle,” says Sam Duboff, Global Head of Spotify for Artists, Marketing & Policy at Spotify. “With this in mind, we took a step back as a company to come up with ways that we can help artists build momentum with fans during this period and elevate the album as an artistic statement.”

“The pre-release moment can often be disjointed across many different platforms; through the powerful tools offered in Spotify for Artists and our upcoming expansion of Countdown Pages to hundreds of thousands of artists, Spotify is focused on becoming the best home for artists and labels to release and promote their music.”

Over 80% of Spotify pre-saves happen the week an album is announced and during the week leading up to its release, the company says. This is also the time when artists put in the strongest social promotion with their fans, and sharing their Countdown Pages can be a significant part of this. For example, Meghan Trainor says adding Clips to her Countdown Page “has been a game changer,” when she uploaded a snippet of her “To the Moon” music video to her page before sharing it to social media. “It’s like a hub for my album to make everything so much more convenient.”

“One thing I love about the Countdown Page on Spotify is being able to tease your track list,” shares country star Conner Smith.”Fans see what they’re going to get with the record. The Countdown Page just kind of puts it all in one place and makes it simple for fans to kind of see and understand.”
