Spurs hope to beat Man United to signing of ex-Chelsea man
Tottenham Hotspur secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Burnley on Friday evening.
The two sides both struggled to create good chances in North London, before full-back Pedro Porro’s stunning late strike earned the Lilywhites a place in the next round.
Ange Postecoglou will likely want to bolster his squad during the current transfer window, with Tottenham having suffered from a number of injuries to key players in recent weeks.
With that in mind, it appears that Spurs are hoping to beat rivals Manchester United to the signing of a former Chelsea forward.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are closing in on the signing of RB Leipzig star Timo Werner.
The Germany international had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but Romano claims that the player has now accepted a proposal from the North London outfit.

It is claimed that the forward is keen on the idea of working with Spurs boss Postecoglou.
The Australian is also said to have approved the deal, and talks between the two clubs are ongoing with a view to agreeing an initial loan move with an option-to-buy clause included.
Werner, 27, initially joined Chelsea from Leipzig back in the summer of 2020 and played 89 times for the Blues across all competitions, scoring 23 goals and providing 21 assists.
After Chelsea’s spending spree during the 2022 summer transfer window, Werner returned to his former side in Germany.
He has now scored 113 goals in 213 matches for Leipzig across his two spells, but he has struggled to establish himself as a regular this season, largely due to the sensational form of teammate Lois Openda.
In total Werner has played 14 times this season, but he has only started two Bundesliga games and the German is therefore keen on the idea of a return to the Premier League.
