Spurs likely to have to give up chase for transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the busiest Premier League sides so far this summer, with two new signings having already been completed.

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, both 18, have arrived at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past couple of weeks, and the pair are expected to be involved in Ange Postecoglou’s first team squad next season.

The Australian will likely want to add further recruits to his squad ahead of the new season, but it appears that Spurs may have to end their pursuit of one of their top transfer targets.

According to Football Insider, the Lilywhites are likely to have to end their pursuit of either Eberechi Eze or Pedro Neto.

The pair, who currently play for Crystal Palace and Wolves respectively, have both emerged as targets for Tottenham as they search for attacking reinforcements.

Both players would likely each cost in excess of £50 million, though, and the report therefore suggests that Spurs will only be able to sign one of the players.

England’s Eze is a target for Tottenham

Eze, who is currently on international duty with England at Euro 2024, joined the Eagles from QPR in 2020 and has since made more than 120 appearances for Palace.

The Selhurst Park side are likely to be desperate to keep hold of Eze, following confirmation of teammate Michael Olise’s £50 million move to German giants Bayern Munich on Sunday.

The England international does, however, have a release clause in his current contract which Spurs could choose to activate.

Neto, meanwhile, joined Wolves from Italian outfit Lazio five years ago, and has since scored 14 goals in 135 games for the club across all competitions, as well as registering 24 assists.

The Portugal international is contracted to his current side until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
