Square Enix’s Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Returns This October, But Still Not For Xbox

The Pixel Remasters remain locked to other platforms

We’ve obviously had issues with getting new Final Fantasy games on Xbox over the past few years, and that includes the collection of Pixel Remasters for the first six titles, which have released on pretty much everything except Xbox.

This situation reared its head once again yesterday, as Square Enix announced a major reprint for the physical Final Fantasy I-IV Collection Anniversary Edition on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, but once again with no sign of Xbox.

As you can imagine, this didn’t go down well with certain fans of the franchise:

There is reason to be hopeful though. A few months ago, Square Enix confirmed that Xbox would be part of its “aggressive” new multiplatform strategy for the future that would “build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles”. It was said that “catalog titles” would be part of this as well, which suggests it’s just a matter of time for the likes of these Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters along with the recent Final Fantasy mainline titles.

For now though, we remain frustrated that we can’t enjoy the FF series to its fullest on Xbox consoles in 2024, but here’s hoping it won’t be long until Square Enix begins the porting process for a whole heap of Final Fantasy goodness.
