Stade Brestois extend lifeline to Super Eagles invitee after tough Ligue 1 start

Ligue 1 club Stade Brestois 29 is reportedly interested in signing Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban, who is set to leave Olympique Lyonnais, Soccernet.ng reports.

France-based journalist Nabil Djellit reports that initial contacts have been made between the two clubs to bring the Togo-Nigerian forward to Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Orban joined KAA Gent from Stabaek Fotbal during the 2023 Winter Transfer Window, quickly garnering media attention for his scoring prowess, netting 32 goals in 52 appearances for the Belgian club.

This impressive performance caught the eye of the seven-time Ligue 1 champions Lyon, who handed him the prestigious number 9 jersey following his signing.

However, Orban’s start in France has been challenging, managing only three goals in 16 appearances for Lyon. With the permanent signing of Guinea-Bissau forward Mame Balde from Troyes and the arrival of Georges Mikautadze, Orban faces stiff competition and a possible exit via a loan move.

Reports circulating in France media indicate that Brest is prepared to offer Orban a chance to prove himself after a difficult first season in Ligue 1.

While there has been no official statement from either Lyon or Orban’s camp, it is suggested that a loan move could be beneficial for the Super Eagles invitee, providing him with more playing time and an opportunity to regain his form.
