Steelers reportedly call Saints about Rashid Shaheed trade
As the NFL trade deadline looms, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly diving into the wide receiver market, with a source indicating the team has placed a call to the New Orleans Saints to inquire about the availability of explosive pass-catcher and return specialist, Rashid Shaheed.
The potential acquisition of Shaheed comes as the Steelers look to bolster a receiving corps that has been the subject of ongoing scrutiny. While star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf remains the established No. 1 option, the team has reportedly been seeking a dependable second target who can provide a deep threat and consistent production to complement their offense.
According to a report by Andrew Filipponi of 93.7 The Fan, the Steelers reached out to the Saints during their recent bye week to âtake their temperatureâ on a trade for Shaheed. The 6-foot, 180-pound former undrafted free agent out of Weber State is in the final year of his contract and is poised to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, a factor that could make the Saints more willing to deal.
Shaheedâs appeal to Pittsburgh is understandable. He possesses the elite speed the Steelersâ offense has lacked, making him a perennial threat to turn a short gain into a long touchdown. His potential to stretch the field would be a significant asset for an offense looking to create space for its running backs and Metcalf.
For the Saints, who appear to be working hard towards a rebuild, trading a player like Shaheed who is playing out a contract year, could make strategic sense for possible trade capital. Moving the wideout for a draft asset would provide weight for their 2026 draft and future plans. But the Saints would also lose an extremely valuable WR and target for Spencer Rattler.
While the Saints previously rejected a reported inquiry from the Steelers for their other standout receiver, Chris Olave, the situation with Shaheed is different due to his impending free agency. They may also reject this inquiry as well. The Steelersâ intent to be aggressive in improving their roster before the November 4th trade deadline is petty evident. A move for Shaheed would signal the final, and possibly most impactful, step in upgrading their pass-catching arsenal.
The coming days will reveal whether the initial inquiry progresses into serious trade negotiations, but for now, the buzz around a potential blockbuster deal involving Rashid Shaheed and the Steelers seems to be rapidly escalating.
