Super Eagles-eligible star suffers robbery attack in Monaco
Super Eagles-eligible forward George Ilenikhena was robbed of his personal belongings at gun point during an event on Saturday night, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ilenikhena has had a decent campaign with Ligue 1 club since joining from Royal Antwerp for just over €18 million during last summer’s transfer window.
The versatile 18-year-old striker has registered two goals and one assist in 14 appearances this season. One of his goals came against Barcelona in the Champions League in September.
Ilenikhena, yet to get pledge allegiance on the international scene, remained at Monaco for the break. However, he was the victim of an incident last weekend, as he was the victim of a robbery. Four armed robbers attacked him as he was leaving a party at the Corbeille-Essonnes area of Monaco. They stole his phone, his Volkswagen Golf car, and his luxury shoes.
According to L1 Insider, this was confirmed after Ilenikhena went to a police station to make a complaint.
Monaco will be hoping that the robbery does not affect him psychologically ahead of their return to club football this weekend.
Ilenikhena was born in Lagos to Nigerian parents, but he moved to France at the age of three. He played for France at youth level, but is yet to commit his senior international career. The Monaco man can still play for Nigeria so long as he does not play for Les Bleus in any competitive game.
