SXSW Duo ‘Redux Redux,’ ‘The Surrender’ Score International Sales for Blue Finch Films (EXCLUSIVE)
Blue Finch Films has closed a raft of international sales for a pair of SXSW-selected titles out of Cannes, with sci-fi action pic “Redux Redux” and female-driven horror “The Surrender” both finding homes across multiple territories.
The genre titles, which opened to critical acclaim at the Austin festival, are currently enjoying strong festival runs as Blue Finch continues to capitalize on their momentum in the international marketplace.
“Redux Redux” has been picked up by A Contracorriente Films for Spain, VOD Factory for France, Vendetta Filmes for Portugal, Capelight Pictures for Germany, Blue Swan Entertainment for Italy, and Premiere TV Distribution for Benelux. Directed by Kevin McManus and Matthew McManus, the film centers on Irene, who attempts to avenge her daughter’s death by traveling through parallel universes to repeatedly kill her daughter’s murderer. As she becomes addicted to her revenge streak, she realizes she may be jeopardizing her own humanity.
“Boasting a brawny aesthetic and the kind of loopy logic where it’s fun to fill in the gaps, the high-concept thriller gives a different take on the arc of history bending towards justice,” said the Variety review.
“Redux Redux” is produced by Mothership Motion Pictures, reuniting the team behind festival favorites “Funeral Kings” and “13 Cameras.” The producing team includes Michael J. McGarry (“The Wolf of Snow Hollow”), PJ McCabe (“The Beta Test”), Nate Cormier (“Star Wars: Bad Batch”) and the McManus Brothers, with Paul Cormier and Karen Cormier serving as executive producers.
Following Shudder’s acquisition of English-speaking rights, “The Surrender” has secured deals with Wild Duck Productions for Spain, Mediawan Rights for France, Premiere TV Distribution for Benelux, Rosebud.21 for Greece, Vendetta Filmes for Portugal, Falcon Films for MENA, and Cine Video Y TY for Latin America.
The horror film explores a fraught mother-daughter relationship put to a terrifying test when the family patriarch dies and the grieving mother hires a mysterious stranger to resurrect her husband. As the brutal resurrection spirals out of control, both women must confront their differences while fighting for their lives and each other.
Director Julia Max wrote the script and produced alongside Mia Chang (“It Follows”), Lovell Holder (“Lavender Men”), Ian McDonald (“Woman of the Hour”) and Robert J. Ulrich (“The Boys”). Susan Gelb (“The Howling”), Adam Maffei (“Griffin in Summer”) and Rob Massar (“Peak Season”) served as executive producers.
Blue Finch’s international slate also includes Berlinale Teddy Award winner “Lesbian Space Princess,” Fantasia-selected titles “Hold The Fort” and “Hellcat,” and Cannes Great 8 title “Mission,” starring George MacKay and Rosy McEwen.
