Talking Point: Has This Week’s ROG Xbox Ally News Sold You On The New Handheld?

Or do you need more convincing?

Image: Anthony Dickens / Pure XboxThe last few months have been filled with reports, news and ultimately, anticipation for the ROG Xbox Ally – as Microsoft prepares to launch its partner handheld device with manufacturer ASUS. This week, a lot of that information has become more concrete — official pricing aside — as the teams show off the device during Gamescom 2025. So, have these new details and impressions on the ROG Xbox Ally convinced you that this is the device for you?

It’s definitely nice to see some proper hands-on impressions out there now, anyway. Generally speaking, folks seem rather impressed by both the Ally and the Ally X, as user feedback starts to pour in from the show floor. Of course, these aren’t ‘real world’ conditions here, but both devices seem pretty capable at playing the latest and greatest Xbox games on the go.

Here at Pure Xbox HQ, opinions on ROG Xbox Ally are somewhat split right now – admittedly without us going hands on with the system at the office yet. Personally, I’m still a little worried about real-world conditions and the accuracy of Microsoft’s new ‘Handheld Compatibility Program’ out in the wild, while Fraser is more optimistic about the device(s) and its future within the Xbox ecosystem. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see how it performs later this year!

Of course, one big sticking point right now is that Microsoft still hasn’t revealed official pricing for the two ROG Xbox Ally SKUs yet. We’ve had plenty of reports in terms of both US and European pricing, but Team Green remains hesitant to make those official, and to open up pre-orders for that matter. In any case, it’s looking like fans will have to fork over quite a bit of cash for these devices!

So, forgetting about pricing and pre-orders for the moment – has this week’s ROG Xbox Ally news sold you on either of these devices? Do you think you’re more likely to buy one after all of the information coming out of Gamescom, or are you still to be convinced?

Vote in the poll above and talk to us about all of this down in the comments section below.
