talkSPORT betting tips – Best football bets and expert advice for Thursday 5 September

While club football may be thin on the ground, there is plenty of international action on offer on Thursday with a number of intriguing meetings catching the eye.

There are qualification matches for both the Asian Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations, while the UEFA Nations League also provides a healthy serving of European drama.

Our tips focus on Scotland’s maiden League A meeting with Poland, a potential goalfest in the World Cup qualifier between Japan and China as well as the world’s lowest-ranked nation who could achieve a memorable victory.

Bet of the dayScotland to win v Poland @ 5/4

Scotland and Poland suffered disappointing early exits at the European Championships – both finishing bottom of their groups with one point – but the hosts could bounce back with a famous victory in their first ever Nations League A fixture.

The Scots topped their group in League B last time out with 13 points from a possible 18 and have avoided defeat in four of their last five meetings with Poland – drawing all four.

Poland finished third in their last Nations League appearance but their squad has weakened since their poor showing in Germany, with previous stalwarts Wojciech Szczesny and Kamil Grosicki announcing their retirements.

While they still have veteran striker Robert Lewandowski to call upon, the Poles do not look as strong as previous years and they may struggle against a Scotland side eager to put their summer woes behind them.

The Scots famously defeated Spain – who went on to win the European Championships – 2-0 at Hampden Park last year and could have the quality to defeat their opponents on Thursday.

Special of the dayOver 3.5 goals in Japan v China @ 21/20

China have won just one of their last ten internationals and could be in for a long day at the office when they visit a Japan side who have been free scoring as of late.

The Samurai Blue have won each of their last four international fixtures – scoring 14 goals in the process – and have claimed 5-0 victories in each of their last two, against Myanmar and Syria respectively.

Six of Japan’s last seven matches at home have seen winners in the over 3.5 goals market and, with the likes of Takumi Minamino, Ritsu Doan and Ayase Ueda at their disposal, there should be more than enough talent on show to provide plenty of goals in this one.

Long shot of the daySan Marino to win v Liechtenstein @ 13/5

Despite winning just one game in their history, minnows San Marino have shown steady signs of improvement over recent years and could double their victory tally against Liechtenstein on Thursday.

La Serenissima’s only win to date came against Liechtenstein in a friendly back in 2004 and have managed to find the back of the net in four of their last five home matches – including against a Denmark side ranked 18th in the world at that point.

The Blue-Reds have lost 25 of their last 27 matches and failed to find the back of the net in 24 of these. If San Marino are to claim the rarest of victories, this meeting undoubtedly provides them with their best chance.
