Bet of the Day – Ferencvaros to beat Noah @ 6/5

Ferencvaros, Hungarian champions for the last seven seasons, are regulars in the later qualifying rounds of the Champions League, although they last made it to the group stage in the 2020-21 campaign.

With Robbie Keane as head coach, they have good prospects of progressing again and can make a winning start in this away tie against the Armenian double winners.

Keane reportedly turned down the Middlesbrough job this summer to stay in Hungary and has a solid side spearheaded by Barnabas Varga, scorer of seven goals in last season’s Europa League.

Noah are in the Champions League for the first time and bidding to go through every qualifying round, as they did in last season’s Conference League to reach the group stage.

Their limitations were exposed once they met higher-grade opposition, however, and that could be the case again here.

Special of the Day – England to win & both teams to score vs Italy @ 21/10

England are heavily favoured to win their semi-final as they bid to retain their women’s Euros crown but their campaign has been far from straightforward and this could be another tricky hurdle.

Sarina Wiegman’s title-holders got through their quarter-final against Sweden by the skin of their teeth, albeit while showing tremendous resilience to come back from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw and then take an eventful penalty shootout that featured more misses than hits.

England certainly have the firepower to overcome Italy in 90 minutes, having scored in every match despite being put in the toughest group with France and the Netherlands and then going up against Sweden’s robust and well-organised defence.

All three of those opponents are arguably superior to Italy and yet England found the net seven times in total against them.

On the minus side, England’s only clean sheet in four games came against Wales, one of the lowest-ranked teams in the competition, and their defensive lapses continue to be a worry.

Italy have also scored in every match, including against tournament favourites Spain in the group phase, and captain Cristiana Girelli has led the way with three goals in four appearances.

Even if ultimately England are likely to prove too strong, Italy have enough quality to pose problems and get on the scoresheet.

Long Shot of the Day – Crvena Zvezda to beat Lincoln Red Imps 5-0 @ 15/1

Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps’ most recent match in the Champions League was a 5-0 away defeat to Qarabag of Azerbaijan in last season’s second qualifying round.

It is worth going for the same scoreline when they face Crvena Zvedza, better known as Red Star Belgrade, at the same stage of the competition.

This time Gibraltar are at home – where they kept the score to 2-0 against Qarabag in last year’s first leg – but the visitors opened their Serbian SuperLiga defence with a 4-0 home win on Saturday over Javor and are likely to prove far superior.
