talkSPORT betting tips – Best golf bets and expert advice for the Charles Schwab Challenge
Newly crowned US PGA champion Scottie Scheffler is the main attraction on the PGA Tour this week as he tees it up in the Charles Schwab Challenge at Fort Worth’s Colonial Country Club.
Colonial, a long-time PGA Tour venue which has hosted this event under various guises since 1946, is a narrow, tree-lined Texas venue where accuracy often trumps power, contrasting sharply with Quail Hollow, where Scheffler won his third Major title last Sunday.
However, the world No.1 has the game to contend at just about any course and Colonial, where he has finished in the top three in each of the last three years, will not pose him any problems given how well he struck the ball in Charlotte last week.
With Rory McIlroy not in attendance, Scheffler is a huge favourite in average company in his adopted home state, but can he seal a third title in as many tournaments?

Scheffler will take all the beating in Fort Worth and winning three titles on the spin is certainly not beyond him, although the 28-year-old has opened up at a very short price and others appeal as each-way selections.
Harris English, a runner-up behind Scheffler at the US PGA Championship last weekend, looks one of the more likely candidates to lower the colours of the world’s No.1 golfer.
Having won five PGA Tour titles including the Farmers Insurance Open earlier in the season, English is among the most decorated players in this week’s field, and he knows he can score well at Colonial, where he was a runner-up behind Jordan Spieth in 2016.
He also finished fifth at Colonial in 2012 and 12th two years ago, further underlining his suitability for this layout.
Poston can deliver the goods in Fort Worth
JT Poston also secured his best Major championship finish last week, placing fifth in his home state of North Carolina, and the three-time PGA Tour winner should expect to go well at the Charles Schwab.
Known for his sharp short-game and precise driving, Poston has quietly gone about his business in recent weeks, finishing 11th at the Heritage and 23rd at the Truist Championship before chalking up a first Major top-10 at Quail Hollow.
Colonial suits his accurate style. He was 10th there in 2020 in a top-class field and 12th last year.
Gerard looking to build on Major effort
This also looks like another good chance for the steadily improving Ryan Gerard to threaten a PGA Tour breakthrough.
Gerard, who graduated from the Korn Ferry Tour last season, makes his Colonial debut this week but he has already shown an ability to perform in Texas, finishing ninth in the Houston Open at the end of March and a runner-up in the Texas Open the following week.
He produced comfortably his best Major finish to date when eighth last week, on only his third start in Major company.Â
