Taylor Fritz couldn’t avoid dreaded ‘Drake curse’ as rapper loses thousands after Jannik Sinner wins US Open

Drake placed a huge bet on Taylor Fritz to win the US Open final – and once again his infamous ‘curse’ struck.

The 26-year-old took on world no.1 Jannik Sinner in the final at the Arthur Ashe stadium on Sunday.

The Italian went into the US Open final with the better odds, knowing that he had a strong chance of defeating the 12th seed.

Drake, however, backed the underdog.

The Canadian rapper placed a staggering $210,000 – which equates to around £160,000 – on Fritz winning the match.

He posted a screenshot to Instagram showing the details of his bet, and revealing that the estimated payout if he won would have been around $808,500 (£616,000).

“Continuing my record as the most daring sports better in history with the most losses,” he wrote on his story, adding in a few laughing emojis. “Going underdog @stake.”

But Drake famously does not have the best track record when it comes to making the right calls.

In fact, his gambling has seen him pick wrong on so many occasions that ‘Drake curse’ has been named in his honour.

Whether it is UFC, football, Formula 1 or the NBA, Drake’s punts over the last few years have seen him lose thousands of pounds on a number of bets.

Betting on Adesanya lost Drake a further £401,000 and then another £347,000 when he backed him again at UFC 293 and UFC 305.

However, he did win back around £2.2 million after betting on Adesanya at UFC 287.

Drake has also forayed into the world of football and his most notable loss came after he bet on the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.

It was a move that lost him more than £800,000.
