Taylor Swift Announces New Album The Tortured Poets Department During 2024 Grammys Win

Brace yourselves: Taylor Swift has a new album on the way. On Sunday night, after accepting the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for midnights, the 34-year-old singer announced that her next record, The Torture Poets Department, will debut on April 19, 2024.

“OK this is my 13th Grammy, which is my lucky number,” Swift said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that. I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans.” Those who anticipated a surprise announcement from Swift were correct. (Though we call B.S. on anyone who guess this.) Before leaving the stage, Swift teased her new project.

“So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you! Thank you.”

As promised, Swift immediately updated her Instagram account with a first look at the album cover along with a handwritten note that could reference future lyrics. The letter reads, “And so I enter into evidence my tarnished coat of arms, my muses acquired by bruises. My talisman and charms. The tick, tick, tick of love bombs. My veins of pitch black ink. All’s fair in love and poetry. Sincerely, The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Society.”
