Taylor Townsend Pays a Sassy Tribute to Ben Shelton After Making the Most of Her Lifeline at WTA Toronto

Ben Shelton picked up the celebration call, and it’s safe to say he’s not hanging up anytime soon! His iconic style of honoring wins went viral earlier this year, but for not-so-good reasons. Remember a certain Serbian imitating it? However, the 21-year-old tennis player’s celebration has now inspired lucky loser Taylor Townsend with the same celebration, to make her name at the Canadian Open.

The 28-year-old American tennis player is now in the round of 16 matches of the Canadian Open, and to celebrate this latest win in the tournament, after defeating Marina Stakusic, she pulled up a dialed-in celebration.

After the victory, she took to her Instagram account, with the pictures of the dialed-in celebrating, and even added Antonio Brown’s same celebration into the series of pictures. Along with that, she wrote, “IYKYK..☎ T-Dot, wagwan.. R2✅ R3 âïžđŸ‡šđŸ‡Š.”

However, that was not it. She took to her Instagram story, and shared a picture of the 36-year-old football wide receiver. In addition, she wrote, “@benshelon and @aby inspired celly today.” Earlier this year, Townsend had a fantastic run at the Miami Open, and her confidence on the court has increased as a result of her previous triumphs.

Townsend expressed her appreciation for Ben Shelton’s distinctive victory celebration in a post-match interview following her most recent triumph over Elise Mertens. She remembered playing with her friend, Shelton, and how he would frequently do his well-known “hung up the phone” motion.

Townsend expressed her fondness for Shelton’s style, saying, “But you know, me and Ben had some really awesome ones when we were playing with each other. I mean, his little phone thing is super swaggy. I love that.” Townsend has gained popularity for her own celebration style, which conveys her feelings and has grown to be a fan favorite. In one of the past post-match interviews, she opened up about her preferred method of court celebration.

Townsend is well-known for her victorious on-court celebrations, which have come to characterize her games. Fans and admirers have responded well to her gestures, despite her admission that they are not always deliberate. Townsend made the hand gesture during the interview when asked about her favorite holiday. “I definitely love the seasoning, like the sprinkle one,” she said.

Townsend stated that she wanted to “add some flavor to the game,” which is why the lighthearted gesture became popular during the French Open last year. Her festivities are deeply ingrained in cultural importance and have a personal touch. However, as Shelton’s celebration is quite popular, what are your thoughts on the same?
