Tems has officially launched the next era of her career. The Nigerian R&B singer has revealed the cover art for her anticipated debut album Born In The Wild, and announced a supporting global tour. As the 28-year-old’s first international headlining trek of her career, the tour stops in London, Paris, Houston, Chicago, and Los Angeles, before wrapping in Australia.

Additionally, dates and locations for concerts in Africa and Asia are set to be announced at a later date. The tour is supported by Naomi Sharon and Lekan.

The tour schedule comes as Tems confirms a release date of June 7, 2024, for her debut. On the cover, the Grammy-winning performer stares focused, with her hair fiercely blown out, showing her full face under a warm spotlight. She embraces her body and accessorizes with bold silver jewelry.

RCA RECORDS/SINCE ’93

“Born in the Wild is actually about my journey,” explained the “Free Mind” singer to Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1. The album is prefaced by the single “Love Me JeJe,” which interpolates Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 track of the same name.

“It’s about my experience as me and about the experiences I’ve had so far. And it really felt like the life I lived before, the life I was accustomed to felt like a wilderness. And it’s not really more so, yes, I was raised in Lagos and that’s a part of me, but it’s not really about the place, it’s more about the state of being. It was a wilderness in the environment I lived in and there’s so many things that happened and so many lessons I learned to come and be this person now. It is basically coming out of the wilderness. So that’s basically what Born In the Wild is about,” the songstress explained.

She continued to detail, “I’ve had to step back a bit to make sure or to check in with myself that I’m being true and also just find healing from all the trauma. Everything I experienced before Tems, I think I had to unlearn a lot of things. And this album is just, it is just a new way of me expressing myself while still centering who I am in it.”
