The Best Dressed Stars of the Week Put New Stamps on Evening Attire

Florals! Sequins! Leather! This week’s best dressed stars wore formal looks that were equal parts fabulous and fun. A-list stars such as Zendaya, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, and Nicole Kidman all put new stamps on evening attire—proving that dressing up for a gala or glitzy movie premiere doesn’t have to mean following strict dress codes or sacrificing individuality. In fact, it can be an opportunity to embrace a look that means quite the opposite.

In New York City, Zendaya continued her Challengers press tour by stepping out in a custom Erdem frock covered in sprightly florals. (Very on theme for the upcoming Met Gala next week, where the star will serve as a co-host this year.) For the Time100 gala in the city, Dua Lipa also chose a glitzy Chanel number punctuated with a big bow and plunging neckline, while Selena Gomez went the vampier route in a skin-tight leather gown by Brandon Maxwell.

On the West Coast, meanwhile, stars continued party dressing in ways that felt fresh and modern. Last night, for one, Nicole Kidman accepted her AFI Life Achievement Award in a golden sequined Balenciaga number—she looked like a trophy herself. Also looking like a golden sunset was Rihanna, who wore a corseted dress by Alexander McQueen; She styled it in a monochromatic way, with her shoes and her barely-there sandals matching the neutral tones perfectly.
