“The first player”- Jose Mourinho praises Nigerian striker after record-breaking feat against Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho singled out Gaziantep striker David Okereke for praise, following his record-breaking goal in their 3-1 loss on Monday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Gaziantep visited the Ulker Stadium Sukru Saracoglu for their Super Lig game against Fenerbahce on Monday.

The home side were the overwhelming favourites going into the game, and they got the lead after just three minutes, courtesy of Oguz Aydin. However, Okereke equalized for the visitors just before the break after poking a rebound into the net from close range.

It seemed like Gaziantep would get a famous draw from Fenerbahce, but Mourinho made some tactical changes which broke down the visitors’ setup.

Eventually, goals from Rodrigo Becao and Edin Dzeko sealed the 3-1 win for the former Super Lig champions.

After the game, Jose Mourinho noted that Okereke had become the first player to score against three of his teams.

When the 27-year-old striker was at Venezia and Cremonese, he scored against Mourinho who was in charge of Roma. Then he struck again on Monday against Fenerbahce.

“I congratulate David Okereke. He is the first player to score against all three teams that I managed. He scored against my teams while playing for Venezia, Cremonese and Gaziantep,” Mourinho said, per Trtspor.

Okereke’s goal against Fenerbahce took his goal tally to three for the Super Lig season. He will be looking to continue his run for Gaziantep this season.
