U2 is added to the 2024 Grammy Awards performance slate on February 4, where they’ll perform straight from Las Vegas’ Sphere before their residency wraps up in March. The Recording Academy announced on Friday, January 26 that U2 has been added to the Grammys’ slated performances on February 4, with the band playing from the Sphere in Las Vegas, where their months-long residency will finally wrap up on March 2.
The group doesn’t have a show booked for the Sphere that night, so whether a live audience will be on hand for the remote Grammy performance remains to be seen. U2’s segment will also feature “a special awards presentation,” the nature of which has also yet to be revealed. U2 will join several other performers teased for this year’s Grammys show.
U2 is the latest performance announced for the 66th Grammy Awards, with Billy Joel, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Burna Boy, Luke Combs, and Travis Scott previously announced. The show kicks off at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, with the CBS telecast beginning at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET on February 4.
The Dublin rockers have a long history with the Grammys, winning 22 awards from the ceremony to date. The last time they performed at the Grammys was six years ago, when they played twice during the event, including a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar. But their forthcoming performance at this year’s Grammys will mark the first televised appearance from the Sphere since its opening. After U2’s 50-show Las Vegas residency, “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere,” wraps up in March, another music act is set to play the venue for a four-night stand. Phish will hit the Sphere from April 11 to 21, with what they promise to be a “completely different setlist each night.” Tickets for Phish sold out immediately, but U2’s considerably longer run was also an easy sell.
