Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Darius Slay addresses heavy criticism from Eagles fans – NBCSP
“One thing I will take accountability for [is] posting my stats like that,” Slay said. “I should not have did that. But ya’ll got under my skin a little bit. I’m not going to lie. Y’all got under my skin for the first time. That was kind of big for me right there, man. Because I put a lot of work into this, man. I work my a— off, I train my a— off, I try to be the best role model and leader that I can be. And to get attacked all the time, well not all the time, but for that game I’m like, ‘Gahh, dawg.’ I had a great ball, great catch on me and y’all was just attacking the dude and I got in my feelings a little bit. So I apologize, Eagles fans. From the bottom of my heart, that won’t happen again. I do take accountability for my wrongs. That was wrong for me doing that. That was a kind of selfish act a little bit because I never been like that. That wasn’t it. That’s not my character. But, yeah, y’all got under my skin. I’ll admit it. Y’all got under my skin.”

Darius Slay Didn’t Say Anything Bad on Micah Parsons’ Podcast, it’s Just Another Eye Roller in the Optics Department – Crossing Broad
It’s the buddy/buddy shit that’s annoying. Imagine Brian Dawkins going on Dexter Coakley’s podcast after the Eagles defense gave up 33 points in a loss to Jake Plummer’s Arizona Cardinals. You’re out here yukking it up with a guy who plays for your biggest rival, less than 48 hours after tweeting and deleting your lifetime stats after a bad loss. Same Darius Slay who is a team captain, by the way, and one of just two on the defensive side of the ball.

Vic Fangio talks about what went wrong for the Eagles’ defense against the Buccaneers – BGN
Fangio explained that the Saints started off throwing a lot, and doing so quickly, and they weren’t in the position to stop them, noting they were in a lot more man those first few plays. “They came out throwing, obviously, and throwing quick. We weren’t close enough. We played a lot more man in those first three series than we usually do, or we were in some tight matchup zones, and we just didn’t play it good enough. Their pass offense was better than our pass defense.” When asked how the defense could look so good against the Saints and then fall so badly just a week later, the DC agreed that was a good question. He reiterated that the Bucs were throwing really quick, and after they got behind the chains, things snowballed.

NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 5 edition – PhillyVoice
When given opportunities to show support for Sirianni (a) after the Eagles’ loss in the playoffs to the Buccaneers last season, and (b) during the summer, Jalen Hurts gave non-answers. At the start of training camp, a likely PR-coached-up Hurts finally showed some support for Hurts, oh and hey look (!) they even rode in a golf cart together! Lol. Anyway, Hurts’ distaste for questions about his collaboration with Sirianni is back already. Meanwhile, Sirianni absolutely will not even hint at criticizing Hurts in his pressers, despite the quarterback’s clear issues protecting the football since 2023.

2024 NFL offensive line rankings ahead of Week 5 – PFF
7. Philadelphia Eagles (Down 2). The Eagles’ offensive line had an uncharacteristic day against the Tampa Bay defense in Week 3, especially in pass protection. The unit allowed 17 pressures — including five sacks — on 37 dropbacks, leading to a 70.3 PFF pass-blocking efficiency score, which was the second-lowest mark in the NFL in Week 4 and the lowest by an Eagles offensive line since Week 9 of last season. The main culprit was right tackle Fred Johnson, who replaced the injured Lane Johnson in the lineup. He was responsible for 11 pressures and a 28.9% pressure rate, the worst clip among all offensive linemen in Week 4.Best player: Jordan Mailata. Mailata has allowed eight pressures on 162 pass plays this season, and his 89.8 PFF pass-blocking grade leads all offensive tackles.

10 questions on NFL quarterbacks: Early concerns, hot starts – ESPN
What can the Eagles do to mitigate Jalen Hurts’ turnover issues? Hurts threw just one interception during training camp this summer while he was mostly playing what he calls “point guard” — getting the ball out of his hands quickly with short rhythm throws to his playmakers. It has been a different story through four games, as Hurts’ average time before throws of 3.1 seconds ranks 32nd among all quarterbacks. He has five fumbles (three lost) and four interceptions over four games. The one constant in this offense has been running back Saquon Barkley, who ranks third in rushing yards (435) and is averaging 6.0 yards per carry. Leaning into the ground game and putting Hurts in more favorable second- and third-down situations will help keep the turnovers to a minimum.

What is the state of gun violence prevention in Philadelphia? – PE.com
Gun-related homicides have dropped 40 percent in 2024 in the Philadelphia region, saving countless lives in the area – but the work is not close to done. On Monday morning, the Eagles hosted A Safer America, an event dedicated to discussing gun violence prevention. Local, state, and federal government leaders, along with individuals working in the space of gun violence prevention, discussed the progress that has been made in anti-gun violence as communities began to take action around the area, and how the work will need to continue to bring the number of deaths by gun violence down more and more. “The Eagles understand that our responsibility to our community extends far beyond the playing field,” Eagles Vice President of Community Relations Julie Hirshey said to kick off the event. “We’re happy to serve here today and bring together so many leaders who are driving real change here and to collaborate on solutions to end gun violence in Philadelphia.”

Is Washington a strong 3-1 team? – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders continue to gain national recognition as their surge impresses around the league. The offense has been one of the best in the NFL this early season, and while the defense has been the opposite four games in, their latest defensive outing was the best they’ve had all season. It’s new territory for Washington, whether offensively or defensively, to have one of the better units in the NFL statistically and on film. Is Washington a strong 3-1 team, or is it too soon to tell?

Davante Adams trade makes perfect sense for these 6 teams after latest rumors – SB Nation
Washington Commanders. It’s wild to think of Washington being a prime landing spot, but it’s certainly become that. The offense is rolling with Kliff Kingsbury and Jayden Daniels, but the team is in dire need of another receiver outside of Terry McLaurin. As it stands TE Zach Ertz is the second leading receiver on the team, with isn’t something that should be working. Adding Davante Adams to the mix just pushes the potential for this team to win the NFC East even higher, and that’s exactly what new ownership wants. Realistically the Commanders aren’t in championship contention, but there’s a lot to like about rejuvenating Adams’ career in an offense on the way up. It also ensures he’ll get plenty of targets.

Davante Adams requests trade: Eight potential landing spots for Raiders’ star receiver – NFL.com
What is a trade-destination list without Dallas listed somewhere? Like the Bills, the Cowboys had a quiet offseason – and it has been a growing topic of debate as the team has started slowly out of the blocks at 2-2. You can never count the Cowboys out in any potential deal, even if they have not been a big-swing team with this type of move in recent years. With the makeup of their offense now, shorthanded in the backfield, this is a pass-first offense. But beyond CeeDee Lamb, do the Cowboys have a game-changing pass catcher? Jake Ferguson is a solid threat at tight end, and Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert have their imprint on the scheme, but an Adams-Lamb pairing might instantly make them the top WR combo in the league. This one feels less likely than the others above them on the list, but there’s no doubting the pressure in Dallas right now. Everyone, starting with owner Jerry Jones, wants another Super Bowl title badly. Getting Adams would help their chances, but it also wouldn’t be a cure-all for what currently ails them on defense and elsewhere.

3 reasons to be concerned about the Cowboys after a month of football – Blogging The Boys
Pass rush has been missing in action. During the Dan Quinn era, the Cowboys pass rush has been a staple of their defense. They’ve led the league in quarterback pressure rate in each of the past two seasons at 42.5% in 2023 and 41.8% in 2022. This season, their pressure rate has dropped to 36.6%. They have gone from 2.71 seconds of time to throw last year (ranked 5th) to 2.86 seconds this season (ranks 25th). It’s a new defense and we get that. They’re more of a keep things in front of them than a pin their ears back and attack group. However, it’s very tough on the secondary if quarterbacks have so much extra time to operate. For whatever reason, the Cowboys’ defense isn’t applying as much pressure. And it’s certainly not going to get any easier without their two top pass rushers, Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, missing time with injuries.

NFL Week 5 power rankings: Not much has changed for the Giants – Big Blue View
This week, the Giants have moved down in most rankings, placing as high as No. 26 and as low as No. 29. The consensus remains the same: not many people expect much from this team and expect changes to come this offseason.

He’s back! Seahawks sign Jason Peters again – Field Gulls
Jason Peters appeared in eight games with a pair of starts for Seattle in 2023, and for those fans who have questions or concerns about the depth at right tackle given the current health situation at the position, this reported move likely provides some level of insight. In addition, for those wondering about the status of the depth at the position, specifically McClendon Curtis and Michael Jerrell, this should answer many questions because in spite of having a lot of bodies at right tackle, it appears the Hawks may not have a lot of belief in those bodies.

Roster Moves: Jaguars Sign Tyler Hall and Jake Funk to Practice Squad – Jaguars
Hall originally signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted rookie following the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons on the practice squad with Atlanta (2020), Los Angeles Rams (2021) and Las Vegas (2022-23) before signing with Philadelphia as an unrestricted free agent in March 2024. In August, he was placed on Philadelphia’s injured reserve list, then eventually signed with Seattle’s practice squad in September.
