“The man of the people” CAF hail reigning POTY for returning to his roots

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have hailed Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after taking his Player of the Year award back to his old primary school to celebrate with them, Soccernet.ng reports.

Last year, Osimhen ended Nigeria’s long wait for an indigenous player to win the CAF Player of the Year. The Super Eagles striker had an amazing season with Napoli, registering 31 goals and five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. His brilliance was key to their first Scudetto win in over 30 years and their first-ever semi-final finish in the UEFA Champions League.

However, since Osimhen won the award in December last year, he has never had any holiday, as the season just ended last month.

But since the 25-year-old’s career ended, he has been on a roll, enjoying the break to the fullest. And earlier this week, Osimhen returned to the Olusosun, Ojota, the community where he grew up, just as he did last year.

The Napoli star posed with children from his old primary school and allowed some friends to take pictures wth his POTY award.

That act did not go unnoticed, as CAF have hailed him for his nice gesture, calling him the “man of the people”

This year, it is likely that Osimhen will relinquish has status as the Player of the Year because he struggled at Napoli last season. Atalanta star Ademola Lookman seems like the favorite to win it at the moment.
