The Match 2024 highlights, results: Rory McIlroy claims title in battle of the pros in Florida

Take a bow, Rory McIlroy. The No. 1 golfer in the world wins the ninth edition of The Match with a closest-to-the-pin tiebreaker. He beat fellow PGA competitor Max Homa and LPGA stars Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang.

In a first for The Match, it was a skins format, meaning it wasn’t won by a team but rather a single golfer. Rather than winning the course by shooting the lowest score, McIlroy won by racking up the most money with a win on three holes and the tiebreaker. He won holes four, six, and eight. Thompson was the only other golfer to win a skin at hole two.

Homa and Zhang each had the chance to win a skin, but their putts missed by inches, resulting in ties. At hole eight, all of McIlroy’s competitors had the chance to tie it up, but each missed par shots, and McIlroy won the skin with a par. At the end of the event, he won $1.1 million for charity.

While The Match is known for humorous celebrity matchups, the 2024 event was the first time women competed. They put up a run for the money, but in the end, McIlroy had a cleaner night in West Palm Beach.
