The Metaphor: ReFantazio Anniversary Event Was Just Atlus Trying to Sell a New Digital Edition

No metaphors here

Atlus celebrated the first anniversary of Metaphor: ReFantazio overnight, and quite frankly, we’re glad that we didn’t stay up until 5am to watch its 15-minute video.

As is always the case with stuff like this, some eager fans were expecting a big announcement. DLC, an expanded re-release, a Nintendo Switch 2 port… But no, the only thing they got was a new digital edition of the game.

The ‘Guidebook Edition’ is due out early next year, and it’ll include the RPG’s official strategy guide, artbook, and soundtrack — all in digital form.

Said strategy guide isn’t the full thing, either — it’s a ‘condensed’ version of the physical product.

To be fair, if you’ve already bought Metaphor’s Atlus 35th Anniversary Digital Deluxe Edition (phew), then you’ll get the aforementioned strategy guide for free. A nice little bonus, we suppose.

For what it’s worth, the video also covers messages of gratitude from both the development team and the game’s English voice cast. It’s at least nice to see such a quality game get some additional time in the spotlight.

Robert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
